Volunteer

Volunteer opportunities. At The Refuge for DMST, we believe in the incredible impact that volunteering can have on the volunteers themselves and the youth in care, and, therefore, we hope to foster a meaningful experience for each volunteer working side-by-side with our staff to empower the girls we serve.

Thank you for your support of our organization through every season. We are so grateful for the outpouring of community support.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

To maintain the safety of the girls in our care and to build trust-based relationships between volunteers and the girls, we require the following from every volunteer who work directly with the girls:

  1. Submit a volunteer application or inquiry — Please check back regularly for open volunteer positions!

  2. Engage in an in-person or phone interview.

  3. Complete background checks, drug screenings, tuberculous testing, and FBI fingerprinting.

  4. Attend volunteer orientation (3 hours).

LEAD AN ENRICHMENT CLASS

Connecting survivors with community members is a key piece of our model of care. During their time at The Refuge Ranch, the girls learn to build healthy relationships at multiple levels, including interacting with volunteers who lead enrichment classes. Through these classes, we hope to foster a meaningful experience for volunteers and to empower the girls to explore various interests and skills.

We are very blessed to have many people offering their time and services. We prioritize opportunities based on the needs and interests of the girls.

In addition to the volunteer requirements above, Enrichment Volunteers must be able to serve during scheduled recreational time (after school or on weekends).

Enrichment classes include the following areas:

  • Music – voice, piano, guitar lessons

  • Dance – contemporary & hip-hop lessons

  • Art – jewelry making, watercolor, painting, etc.

  • Health/Fitness – cooking, baking, circuit training

  • Leadership Development Training

If you have a skill or talent that you want to share as an enrichment class, please email us below and we will be in touch.
